How Psychotherapy Can Help
Each person’s experience of psychotherapy will be different, and the time it takes to see an improvement will also vary from person to person. Some people will notice a difference in how they are feeling after a shorter amount of time say 6-12 weeks, while others may want to see someone longer term.
Amongst many other things, psychotherapy can:
Give you someone to confidentialliy explore your problems/issues with
Enable you to see things in a new way
Help you move toward your own solution
As well as also helping you to:
learn more about yourself, your goals and values
identify causes of tension in life, work and relationships
develop skills for facing and overcoming challenges
To benefit most from the process, it is important to reflect on whether you are at the right place in your life for therapy. It might be helpful to ask yourself the following questions: Do you want to do this right now? Do you have the time and space to engage actively? Can you attend the appointments? In time, do you feel you can you be open and honest with your therapist?
It is an important factor in finding a suitable therapist is finding some who you can trust.
