Who Am I?
About me.
I’m Jo, a Humanistic and Integrative psychotherapist working in private practice in Bath. I am in the final stage of a six-year MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy with the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC). I have been working with clients in private practice for over four years, with people from a wide range of backgrounds and coming to therapy for many different reasons.
How I work.
My way of working is warm, relational and down to earth. I don’t see therapy as something I ‘do’ to you, or as a process where I simply sit back and listen. I see it as something we do together. I will listen carefully, but I will also be curious, think with you and, when it feels helpful, offer my thoughts and observations.
There isn’t one way of doing therapy that works for everyone. Working integratively means that I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on you and what you bring. We might think about experiences from your past and how they continue to shape you, what is happening in your life and relationships now, or patterns and feelings that are difficult to understand or change.
The relationship between us is an important part of the work. Therapy can offer an opportunity to notice and understand ways of relating that may also appear elsewhere in your life, while having the space to experience something different.
You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or what you want to change. Part of our work can be making sense of that together.
My background.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked as a lawyer. I later moved into mental health and have experience working therapeutically in both private practice and charitable and community settings.
Alongside my private practice, I have worked with mothers and families, including providing trauma counselling through Bath Children’s Centres. This has given me particular experience of working with the complexities of pregnancy, parenthood, relationships, identity and significant periods of change, although my private practice is not limited to these areas.
I work with adults aged 18 and over. My practice is professionally supervised and I work within the ethical and professional standards of my training and professional body UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
If you are considering therapy and would like to find out whether working together might feel right for you, you are very welcome to get in touch.
What I Offer.
I offer individual psychotherapy for adults aged 18 and over, in person in Bath (and occasionally online).
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety or low mood, difficulties in relationships, bereavement or loss, low self-esteem, trauma, or a period of change or uncertainty. You may find yourself repeating patterns that you understand intellectually but struggle to change, or simply have a sense that something isn’t quite right without being able to put your finger on why.
You don’t need to have a diagnosis, be in crisis, or know exactly what you want from therapy. Sometimes the starting point is simply wanting to understand yourself, your relationships or your experiences more deeply.
I offer both shorter-term and open-ended therapy. We can think together about what might be most useful for you when we first meet.
Sessions are 50 minutes and take place weekly.
My rates.
Talk therapy
Individual psychotherapy sessions for adults are 50 minutes and take place weekly, in person, from my therapy room in Bath.
My fee is £55 per session (including the first session).
Our first session gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you might be hoping for, and to get a sense of whether working together feels right.
