The First Session.
It can be quite daunting thinking about coming to your first therapy session, whether you’ve had therapy before or this is your first time.
You might find yourself worrying about knowing what or how much to say. You might be wondering whether we will click, whether I am the right therapist for you or even what is it all about and what therapy can help with. These are all totally normal thoughts and concerns but could feel quite overwhelming to try and get answers to in the very first session.
I’d encourage you to take your time, to give yourself permission to fully explore the dynamics of how we might work together. It could well be that you know very quickly whether or not you wish to continue, and although it is very important to listen to your gut it also takes time to trust another person with seeing your vulnerability so giving it a couple of sessions is always advisable.
If you are ready to take this first step, please email me jolovedixon.therapy@gmail.com and we can arrange an initial consultation.
Our initial meeting is your chance to meet me and if you feel comfortable, discuss anything that is on your mind or what might have brought you to therapy and I’ll also give you a flavour of how we might work together.
If we decide we might like to meet again, I will liaise with my supervisor to ensure I am properly supported in our work. Once this is confirmed I will email you a date and time for our weekly sessions which can also be discussed in our initial meeting.
I will also provide you with information about the framework, ethical standards and practicalities involved in us working together.
My fee for each session is currently the reduced trainee rate of £25.
A session lasts 50 minutes.
